The Pilates method was created by the German sportsman, Joseph Hubertus Pilates , in the post WW1 era. Applying his knowledge in physiotherapy, ballet, traumatology, yoga and gymnastics, this Pilates method was born, whose objective was the rehabilitation of wounded combatants of war.
It was based on the use of combinations of different sports and physical fields and machines created and designed by Pilates itself, and could even treat patients immobilized in a special bed that he designed.
